Adamastor is a giant from Greco-Roman mythology, one of the sons of Gaya, who rebelled against Zeus and was punished into becoming a capelike structure in the southern tip of Africa.

He is the giant of the Cape of Storms, who sank the ships. As it was “thrown to the bottom of the seas,” it broke down in tears (the salty waters that lapped the confluence of the Atlantic and Indian oceans) in the form of a storm threatening the ruin of those who tried to cross the Cape of Storms.
